Overview

This module reviews CPT coding for drug administration services, explaining how to determine when to report hydration services, as well as distinguishing among initial, subsequent, and concurrent infusions. It also discusses chemotherapy administration and the documentation necessary for appropriate code assignment.

Shannon E. McCall, RHIA, CCS, CCS-P, CPC, CPC-I, CEMC, CRC, CCDS, CCDS-O, is the director of HIM and coding for HCPro. She oversees all of the Certified Coder Boot Camp programs. McCall was the original developer of the Certified Coder Boot Camp®—Inpatient Version and the Evaluation and Management Boot Camp; most recently, she collaborated with the CDI team to develop the Risk Adjustment Documentation and Coding Boot Camp®. McCall works with hospitals, medical practices, and other healthcare providers on a wide range of coding-related custom education sessions.

Monica M. Watson, RHIA, CDIP, CCS, CCS-P, CPC, CDEO, CIC, CPMA, CRC, CVBA CRCR, is a healthcare leader with 20+ years of experience transforming coding, compliance, CDI, and revenue cycle operations across academic medical centers, health systems, payers, and physician organizations. Her career has centered on building high-performing teams, modernizing coding operations, and leveraging technology—especially AI-enabled automation—to reduce revenue leakage, strengthen compliance, and elevate organizational performance. Currently, Watson serves as corporate coding director for Allegheny Health Network, leading enterprise-wide coding operations for 14 hospitals and 2,600+ providers. As an AHIMA-Approved ICD-10-CM/PCS and CDI trainer, AAPC Approved Instructor, and adjunct professor, Watson is also passionate about developing coding talent and advancing education across the profession.
